Happy Memorial Day!
I’m watching, “Tora! Tora! Tora!” right now, one of the best Pearl Harbor films made, and there’ve been a few.
One thing I always think when watching on e of these movies, though, is that I’m not only glad we beat the Japanese, I’m glad we nuked them. Seriously. In fact, I think we should have kept on nuking them not until they surrendered, but until it stopped being fun.
I also wonder why I get days like Memorial day - or Veteran’s Day, or Labor Day - off from work. It seems to me the only people who should get the day off are the people we’re honoring with the day, no? The Memorial Day people get every day off, and Labor Day is just a big “Fuck You” to the Federal Government for killing labor union members during the Pullman Strike.
But why don’t only the Veterans get Veterans Day off? They’re the ones who earned it. All the rest of us do are go on trips or stay drunk an extra day. (And watch “Tora! Tora! Tora!” on AMC.)
